JULY 2006
Seven straight wins tied him with D! & Kryenik for the longest win streak. Dextro went from being more or less unknown to number one contender to Patrick Bickle's Pure title, earning three straight wins in one night to do so. Then, he shocked the world by unseating Bickle as pure champion. Dextro's win streak and sudden rise to prominence can't be denied, so he is your wrestler of the month.
Behind the scenes, Diego is one of the main gears in the NAPW cog. But in July, he truly excelled. Not only did he write the best Delivery Men RPs of his career (the 'From Evil' series), he finally guided them to the tag team championships with a big win over Bi-Polar Express, and a win over D-X to retain before losing the rematch to D-X. In singles, D! regained his footing to win two matches in one night at Get The Hell Off Our Lawn, defeating Devastation and then beating Static for the NAPW Title - his third title reign. MVP? D! Close behind, Diego, however, is our own Perry Saturn lookalike Bo. Week in, week out, with or without a match booked, Bo writes Rex Caliber RPs like they're going out of style. Bo helps keeps the boards hopping and sets an example for the rest of NAPW. Kudos!
On the other side of the coin, The Delivery Men finally made good on all their potential, ending the record-breaking title reign of Bi-Polar Express. For a brief moment, Delivery Men all held gold --- Stein with the Provincial title, #1 and #2 holding the tag belts. The Delivery Men proved they weren't fluke champions by defeating D-X in their first title defense. What does the future hold for The Delivery Men? Honorable mention to The New & Improved D-X. After losing the titles to Cartwright & Casino waaaay back in March, they started from the bottom and climbed the tag team ladder to finally become four-time tag team champions at the end of July.
There really isn't much else. On the side of new Commissioner/Owner Joseph Winchell are Violence International, the Charitable Trust, Ravager & Static. On the other side are (notably) D!, Rex Caliber, The New & Improved D-X and The Delivery Men. Winchell's particular hatred towards Rex Caliber is the culmination of this feud... what lengths will Winchell go to gain revenge on his hated rival? And more pressing for Winchell: WHO is the new Man In Black costing Winchell-allied wrestlers matches? Honorable Mentions to Static vs Crash Carver, as well as Lloyd Rees vs Stein. "Nothing says feud like a gimmick match, and that Ketchup Casket match was certainly gimmicky." - Kyle Jago
Again, there isn't much else. Ravager's heinous defeat of Rex Caliber and the way it happened set off a drunken, hot and rowdy Edmonton crowd, culminating in a full-scale riot that saw the outdoor show cancelled. LAWN would finish the night later, but the full reprecussions of the riot are unknown... Dextro's Pure Honor title victory over Bickle gets a nod.
The Academy can't agree, so all three of these matches get highlights! Bo gives D!'s epic defeat of Static (With Man In Black assistance) the nod, which our man Troi takes a look at the chaotic, violent brawl that was Ravager/Rex (+ riot) the MOTM honors. Kyle Jago votes for a match including his own team: "D-X/Delivery Men IV. These teams have faced each other [more times than any other rivalry in NAPW] with that match, Ryan wrote it pretty evenly, was able to give us the story of a turning D-X, a unified front against Winchell's gang, and, hey, D-X won clean and shook hands afterwards!"
Mr. Slick for his first-ever title victory and a good month. The Crusher as well for making a strong comeback. These two will meet August 8th for the TV Title! Kidd, while only wrestling two matches in July, has been impressive so far. Rumour has it that NAPW management wants him to focus on singles wrestling... what will he accomplish in NAPW's singles rankings? Troi for really making Krusty Kid Paul a better character all the time and working on the little things in his RPs for KKP and (BLEEP). Hard, hard work from our boy Troi in July! North T. Gunderson came out in July with some big wins, earning his first-ever title shot August 8th. Wins haven't come Thunder's way all too often, but the potential has always been there.
JUNE 2006
Scary good. The dude's on fire. All comments thrown in the direction of the reigning Pure Honor Champion, and the reality is... Patrick Bickle has beaten El Mentiroso. Twice. He's beaten "Sick" Billy Kryenik. And most recently, he took out the veteran Ravager. The Pure Honor Champion puts his body on the line each and every show, and somehow comes out on top. For redefining "Pure Honor", being the top heel in the PH division, and carrying a chilling aura that makes him larger than life, Patrick Bickle is the NAPW Wrestler of the month. An honorable mention goes out to "The Nexus One" Rex Caliber, who regained the NAPW Championship at Epic and then proceeded on his Path Of F'N Rage until Static screwed him over (figuratively and literally) for the belt. Certainly one of the faces of NAPW, Rex Caliber is one reason the title belt is so valuable.
Although The New & Improved D-X have been on a tear throughout June, and the Bi-Polar Express have been awesome, it is the new Tag Team Champions that take this honor. The Delivery Men overcame a serious losing skid and a potentially team-destroying personal situation in time to defeat the seemingly unstoppable Bi-Polar Express and become the tag team champions. Kudos to #1 and #2 for a long-overdue run at the top... you earned it, boys.
Sometimes it's just so clear. The feud between former Crimes Static & Rex escalated to sadistic lengths, leading to Static winning the Heavyweight Title. The bad blood between these two could not be contained by the wrestling ring... what else is there to say? Crime vs Crime was bloody, violent, intense, personal and downright nasty. With Rex Caliber banned from ever touching Static again outside of a match at the cost of ever receiving another title shot, the feud seems to be forced into retirement... but the hate still exists.
Static: From not even ranked to World Champ. That's a helluva comeback. On the other side, Lloyd Rees recovered from a disappointing Provincial Title loss to gain the TV Title from Uzi, and subsequently involved himself with Devastation. Static is on top, and Lloyd Rees is once again making an impact after nearly vanishing from the radar. Both men deserve to be recognized for coming back from tough spots.
Sure, Static turning on Rex was horrifying and unexpected. Ravager turning on his honorable ways and trying to blackmail D! was pretty bad. The Bi-Polar Express allying with SAD? Wild. How about four titles changing hands in two consecutive shows? That's insane. But really, what can be as surprising as Joey Malone, the perennial loser, revealing that in reality he is R. Joseph Winchell III, the SON of NAPW Commissioner "Wahoo" Bobby Winchell. The full impact of of this revelation has not been felt, but Joseph was a key factor in Static defeating Rex Caliber thanks to his despicable attack of Tiffany Macintyre and threatening of Rex Caliber's young son. There is more to this story... much more.
MAY 2006
Since winning TAIPEI against Deathrow, Bill Kryenik has been on a tear. From April through May he won seven straight matches, became half-of the tag team champions, defeated Patrick Bickle in a Pure Honor match, and defeated D-X along with his partner Evan Cartwright. Without question, Billy Kryenik was one of the key players in NAPW throughout April & May 2006.
What else is there to say? Krusty Kid Paul - THE SHOWSTOPPA - and SUPERSTAR Tommy Deathrow tore up NAPW in May. They defeated The Delivery Men on three separate occasions in varying combinations, beat the crap out of two rookies, and in general raised merry hell over NAPW. Their promos, like SAD Cribs and Santa Claus, were hysterical. The censors cowered, fans booed but secretly loved them, and each man debuted a new move: KKP his vicious CRACK ROCK STEADY torture move, and Deathrow...The uh, Sweaty Ball Claw. KKP and STD are nothing but perfect together, and despite a hard night at Epic, are certainly in line for a shot at the tag team gold.
Although the Patrick Bickle/Billy Kryenik and The Delivery Men/SAD feuds were epic in scope, nothing was as intense, personal or simply angry as Chris Casino versus his former friend and tag partner Evan Cartwright. Casino's anger at Evan choosing Kryenik as his 'replacement' after Casino left NAPW was too great. Cartwright's regaining of the Provincial title from Lloyd Rees was sullied by a brutal attack from Casino immediately afterward. It only got worse from there, with Casino attacking Evan during a tag title defense against D-X. The feud ended in classic fashion at NAPW Epic, with Casino taking the Provincial gold from Cartwright. How long before their paths once again cross?
At the beginning of May, the Celtic Assassins looked to be the joke of NAPW. Turfed out of the New Found Alliance after an unsuccessful title shot, the Assassins regrouped. A win over former allies Bayman Jakey and Lloyd Rees (albeit due to Lloyd screwing over Jakey) gave the NFA the confidence they needed to begin a win streak. After defeating Mr. Slick & Joey Malone and then new team Stiff Competition, the Celtic Assassins scored a major upset, upending D-X in the TAGSTRAVANZA match and earning the number one contender slot in the tag division. They're hilarious and just so damned easy to cheer for.
It was at the hands of Stylin' Kyle Roberts that Chris Casino was put out of the NAPW for a period. Casino's return set off rampant speculation about how he would get his revenge. The story appeared to be concluded when a Triple-Threat match was booked: Billy Kryenik vs Kyle Roberts vs Chris Casino. Casino hated Kryenik. Kryenik hated Roberts. Roberts hated Casino. Casino hated Roberts. Roberts hated Kryenik. Kryenik hated Casino. Or so everybody thought. To the shock of EVERYBODY, even Boston Dave, Casino & Roberts turned on Kryenik in the match, and with The Beast coming in, beat down Kryenik and Evan Cartwright. The new trio --- called Degeneration NeXt --- made their mark one week later at Epic, with Casino upending Cartwright for the Provincial Belt. And they're just beginning.
