2007 Spring Awards
Best Match
Ravager vs "Sick" Billy Kryenik (Sole Survivor II 03/27/2007)Perhaps the greatest single match in NAPW history. Kryenik and Ravager, each at the top of their game. The match went over thirty minutes and neither man ever once took a breather. It was a match where each man kicked out of the other's finisher, giving everything they had until finally, at last, Ravager was able to retain the title after a thunderous lariat. An unbelievable display of athleticism and intestinal fortitude marked by zero controversy or shenanigans.
"LDK" Lloyd Rees vs Simply Beautiful, "I Quit" match (Sole Survivor II 03/27/2007)
The second ****+ match of Sole Survivor II was a brutal, old-school affair. The bitter hatred between Simply Beautiful and LDK was clear in the actions and faces of each man. Frustratingly for Simply Beautiful, he lost the match when his imbalanced cornerman Brian Bruno threw the towel in --- right as SB was near to breaking the dreaded Conception Bay Chinlock. It was an outcome nobody was happy about save Brian Bruno. LDK and SB will certainly tie up in the future to settle their score.
Stylin' Kyle Roberts vs Bruce "The Beast" Richards (Sole Survivor II 03/27/2007)
The trilogy of ****+ matches at Sole Survivor... the first ever NAPW meeting of the 5-time tag team champion New & Improved D-X. The culmination of nearly two months of waiting for The Beast... the chance to finally get his hand on the turncoat Stylin' Kyle Roberts. The Beast beat the living hell out of Roberts to the delight of the fans. Kyle had to use the absolute most of his opportunites to even get offense. After Kyle seemingly had the match won several times, a second Chart Attack gave The Beast the victory. With Stylin' Kyle Roberts now wrestling for REBEL Pro Wrestling, this personal, heated issue is over... for now.
DOOMriders vs Chris Casino & Krenshov (Cold Snap 02/27/2007)
A non-stop onslaught of weapons, hardcore violence and one shocking, horrifying fall from the bleachers through a set of tables. Nobody does violence quite like Deathrow & Kryenik, but Casino and the Colossus KRENSHOV came to win. In the end a Deathrow Driver put Casino down for the only pinfall loss he has suffered since returning to NAPW rings. This match has to be seen to be believed.
"The Devastator" Kurt Castle vs "The Show" Chad Kurtis vs Jeff James vs "LDK" Lloyd Rees, Provincial/Television title unification (Tuesday Night Fights, 03/13/2007)
Two champions and two challengers entered this contest. One champion left. After James & Kurtis teamed up to eliminate Provincial Champion Kurt Castle, LDK Lloyd Rees blindsided both to eliminate James. And then the ladder came out. Highlighted by the now-famous CK Finale off the top of the ladder from Kurtis to LDK, this match displayed just how much the Provincial and TV Titles meant to NAPW wrestlers.
Best Singles Wrestler
Chris Casino
Chris Casino is the longest reigning Pure Honor champion. He holds the record for most successful title defenses. He wrestled on nearly every card this year, and won 95% of his matches. Since returning to NAPW, his only loss came in MOTY candidate tag team match at Cold Snap vs The DOOMriders. Personal setbacks and a minor misfire in the Sole Survivor match aside, only man has had a spring as successful as Mr. Casino... a man he will meet for the first time on April 17th...
Ravager
For a time, it seemed that Ravager had no direction. The shocking departure of his arch-rival D! had left a significant void in NAPW. To many fans, Ravager was simply the "yin to D!'s yang. With numerous unsuccesful shots at the NAPW title and only one short, unremarkable run with the title, Ravager was dangerously near being labelled a choke artist. That has all changed. Ravager, fresh off a victorious feud against former champion The Plague, surprised the wrestling world by upending Evan Cartwright for the belt at Cold Snap. The pundits said his first defense would be his last; Ravager defeated LDK Lloyd Rees. Clean. In the center of the ring. They said his second defense would be his last, against up-and-coming Simply Beautiful getting his first title shot. The Last Resort put SB down for a definitive three-count. At Sole Survivor II, Ravager faced his stiffest challenge yet in Canada Cup winner and tag champion "Sick" Billy Kryenik. Vegas odds were 50-1...against.
Ravager proved them wrong.
Call it... instant karma.
Best Tag Team
DOOMriders
"2007 will be the Year of The DOOMrider." Billy Kryenik prophesied to open the new year. And indeed, it has been quite a year so far. Just over one year from when the DOOMriders first arrived in NAPW, Kryenik & Deathrow at last became Tag Team Champions. Individually, Kryenik has proven himself one of the most technically proficient and intense competitors, winning the 2007 Canada Cup. Deathrow has experienced a renaissance, nearly winning the Provincial Title and picking up big wins. Their MOTY candidate vs Casino & Krenshov at Cold Snap, their tag title wins, their hard-fought title defense against three other teams at Cold Snap. The DOOMriders have come into their own.
Midnight Cowboys
Alas, all good things must come to an end. Clint and Stone Zellor have taken separate paths after being unable to regain the NAPW Tag Titles at Sole Survivor II. Yet, that should not take away from the success the team had. The Cowboys are the team that put the nail in the D-X coffin, dethroning D-X for the tag titles --- a loss that would prove to be the end for Roberts & Richards. You cannot look at the spring NAPW tag team scene and look past the Midnight Cowboys. Will the Midnight Cowboys ever ride again? Time will tell.
The New & Improved D-X
2007 will be better known as the year Stylin' Kyle viciously turned on long-time partner The Beast. Kyle's attack did what Joseph Winchell could not do, and finished the work started by the Midnight Cowboys: it ended the record-setting five-time Tag Champion team of The New & Improved D-X. But prior to that, D-X proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were worthy of the accolades and title reigns heaped upon them in 2006. D-X defended the tag belts EVERY show for four straight after regaining them from the Celtic Assassins at the start of January. Despite the horrendous schedule forced upon them by the maniacal Joseph Winchell, D-X never flinched. They earned their reptuation. Shame Stylin' Kyle had to destroy it.
Best Feud
Stylin' Kyle Roberts vs Bruce "The Beast" Richards
The match the fans never thought they'd see... but now desperately wanted to. Or rather, they desperately wanted to see The Beast beat the ever-loving tar out of Stylin' Kyle Roberts. Kyle did everything in his power to infuriate The Beast, slipping out of his terrifying grasp at every occasion. When Sole Survivor II finally came around... Almost two months worth of aggression, frustration and bitterness erupted.
"LDK" Lloyd Rees vs Simply Beautiful
When LDK returned from a hiatus, he targetted the man who scored a DQ victory over him months ago - Simply Beautiful. Their rivalry quickly escalated into a full-blown blood feud, including allies Patrick Bickle, The Plague and David Banks. SB tore through Banks and The Plague, finally getting his hands on LDK at Cold Snap in a tag match... only to have Bickle never show up. The odds overcame him and he was forced to tap out. SB beat Lloyd in singles competition later; at Sole Survivor the "I Quit" match ultimately proved inconclusive. There is more to be written for this story.
Most Memorable Moment
CK Finale off the top of a ladder!
"Holy shit" about sums it up.
Mr. Canada --- revealed!
To the shock of the WORLD. Yes. THE ENTIRE WORLD. New NAPW owner Mr. Canada unmasked at last... as Rex Caliber. Yes. THAT Rex Caliber. Eat it, Joey!
Kryenik/Krenshov fall off the bleachers through a stack of tables
Krenshov looks right into Kryenik's eyes.
KRENSHOV: You're gonna die, Sick Billy.
Kryenik looks back at him, emotionless.
KRYENIK: Then you're comin' with me.
Enough said.
Biggest Shock
Stylin' Kyle Roberts turns on The Beast
WTF OMG noooo!!!!1!
Static wrestles for Winchell at Cold Snap
Joseph Winchell vs Mr. Canada became Static vs Rex Caliber II. Five DDTs. FIVE DDTS.
Patrick Bickle no-shows his partner SB
Bickle's no-show at Cold Snap left SB in a two-on-one match with David Banks & Lloyd Rees. SB was forced to tap out. If SB ever finds Bickle... bet on violence.
Ravager is an Untouchable, NO HE'S NOT!
Everybody thought Ravager was an Untouchable. Ravager admitted as such. Well, until he started beating the holy hell out of The Untouchables. At that point everybody involved, including Chris Casino, realized that putting a t-shirt is a poor excuse for allegiance.
Keep Your Eye On
Sebastien Martyr
This man is undefeated in singles competition since debuting in NAPW. He holds an upset win over Tommy Deathrow was one of the final two men left in the ring in Sole Survivor. And he isn't going away.
"The Show" Chad Kurtis
A new fire has been lit under the ass of the "Last Action! Hero" as of late. Despite losing the TV title in the unification match, the future is looking bright for Chad Kurtis. Stay tuned.
"Dynamite" Stone Zellor
The Midnight Cowboys are no more, but the fans have taken to younger brother Stone. With a new nickname and new moveset at his disposal, the man with balls of steel and smooth groove ability is looking to establish a new singles career right here in NAPW!
