2007 YEAR-END AWARDS

2007 saw a lot of changes in NAPW. In April, the biggest change occured as NAPW went from running two cards a week to two cards a MONTH, transitioning from a "weekly TV" style e-fed to one modelled more directly off of real indie wrestling promotions. One of the immediate benefits of the change was that every show became a big show, and there was a lot less filler. And of course, the establishment of NAPW's sister promotion REBEL Pro Wrestling changed everything, as some NAPW mainstays headed to REBEL exclusively and a healthy competition has developed between the two promotions.

2007 also saw some incredible first-time matches and events that will not soon be duplicated. Ravager's epic six-month long, ten-title defense NAPW title reign has set the bar very high for all future NAPW champions. The long-awaited Ravager vs Chris Casino match finally occurred, and after the first match ended in a controversial draw, the rematch saw the unification of the NAPW and Pure Honor championships. Donovan Astros & Jake Phoenix came to NAPW and by year's end, became the top two heels without a doubt. The Beast and Stylin' Kyle Roberts broke up, only for each man to attain top singles gold in his respective promotion (NAPW for The Beast, as Roberts went to REBEL). Tommy Deathrow won tag gold with three different partners; Simply Beautiful dropped that moniker and turned his back on the fans; Ravager was retired by Jake Phoenix in the final show of the year; Prince Darko and Stone Zellor engaged in a tremendous feud over the Heritage title which culminated in a classic ladder match.

The Crimes vs The World, the end of Rex Caliber's reign of terror, the returns of Stein, KRENSHOV and Dez Carter... although the first half of 2007 was very shaky with NAPW, the fall has set the tone for 2008 with an incredible, steady roster and a wealth of talent. But before we get started on 2008, it's time to recognize the best of the best in 07! Here are the awards!

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

1. Ravager
2. Donovan Astros
3. The Beast
4. Stone Zellor
5. Chris Casino

Ravager's epic, record-shattering World Title reign puts him in the top spot. Donovan Astros takes the #2 spot on the strength of his dethroning of Ravager and of The Beast at the tail end of 2007. The Beast started the year picking up his fifth tag title reign, then went on to have a tremendous singles run culminating in the World Title. Stone Zellor went undefeated in 13 matches and picked up the tag titles and two Heritage titles while engaging in severay MOTY candidates. Chris Casino's NAPW career sadly ended at the hands of Donovan Astros in the fall, but prior to that he had a seminal Pure Honor title run and proved himself as an NAPW legend in his war against Lloyd Rees and The Crimes.

TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR

1. Mystic Exposition
2. Jake Phoenix & Tommy Deathrow
3. New & Improved D-X
4. DOOMriders
5. Bluegrass Mafia

Mystic Exposition have yet to successfully DEFEND the tag titles, but they are three-time tag champions, engaged in the best tag match of the year vs Bluegrass Mafia at Complete Control, and went a stunning 10-5 in tag competition to close out the year. Jake Phoenix & Tommy Deathrow were an unlikely pair, but in their short tenure utterly dominated the competition in destructive fashion. The New & Improved D-X were shattered by Kyle Roberts' jealousy, but before that they picked up their fifth tag title in January and defended them against incredible odds. The DOOMriders Kryenik & Deathrow finally got the tag titles that had eluded them for so long; 2007 started off as the Year of the Doomrider until they petered out in April. The Bluegrass Mafia picked up two tag title reigns. Their year was marred by inconsistency, but both Matt and Chad Kurtis proved they can be top players when they are on top of their game.
