PURE HONOR TOURNAMENT07/14/2006Grande Prairie, AB
Carter Owens is set to make his entrance... Evan Cartwright suddenly whips him around, gum-chewing with arrogance~. Slap to the face! Cartwright eggs Owens on, telling him to take a shot. Owens balls his fists up... but overcomes the desire to wipe that smug look off of Cartwright's face. He turns around, heading through the entrance way. The smug grin on Cartwright's perfect face is just so damn infuriating.
Carter Owens takes control off of the bell, his five inch height advantage giving him the leverage. Dextro, surprisingly, begins to counter-wrestle with Owens. Reversal, swing, duck, counter, Dextro tries for a DexPlex, blocked by Owens into a vertical suplex of his own! Great exchange, and Owens begins to ground Dextro with an arm bar - setting up for the cross armbreaker. Dextro fires into the face of Owens to break free, netting him a warning. Dex grimaces, still getting used to the PH rules. Front headlock, Owens counters with a back suplex, Dextro flips out at the top, spin-around, fisherman's suplex gets two. DexPlex gets two. Dextro goes up top for the SSP, nobody home. Owens grabs Dextro... powerbomb. Holds on, lifts his man back up, powerbomb #2 and then the cover --- Dextro uses up a rope break to get his foot on the ropes! Owens hauls his man up. Owens uncharacteristically hesitating for a moment, perhaps Evan Cartwright got into his head with that pre-match slap. The moment passes, and Owens again goes to the standing headscissors. 11:52 for Dextro, but The Meth Orphan reaches forward --- double leg takedown on Owens! Dextro's still got the legs, he flips over Owens with a pin... one! Two! Three! Dextro with the upset win over Carter Owens in the first round. Post-match handshake, Owens giving Dextro credit with Pure Honor respect. Owens has to be disappointed with himself, though...
El Gato is at ringside as he watches his mentor, El Mentiroso go one on one with "Durty" Dutch Flanagan. They go for the handshake. Dutch spits in his palm to seal the deal, and you can see Mentiroso grimace, even through the mask. Morgan Smythe calls for the bell, and the two men lock up. Mentiroso, enjoying the size advantage, cinches Flanagan in an arm bar. Flanagan grabs the ropes, forgetting the rules of the match, and is quickly down one rope break. Angry, he swings at Mentiroso, misses, and gets caught with an Enzuigiri. Mentiroso goes for the cover, but barely gets one. Mentiroso drags his opponent to his feet, and instead gets caught with a jaw jammer from Dutch. Quickly taking the advantage, Dutch hits a clothesline, and lays some kicks into his downed opponent. He drags Mentiroso to his feet, then pulls him to the corner turnbuckle, and hits a tornado DDT! Cover! One... Two... Mentiroso barely kicks out! Dutch tries to keep the offensive, springboarding off the ropes for a huge splash. Cover again, and Mentiroso puts his foot on the ropes, using his first rope break. Dutch gets a gleam in his eye, as he drags Mentiroso to his feet and throws him into the ropes. Dutch slaps on the TARANTULA! Smythe starts the count! Dutch breaks the hold! But Smythe has no choice but to take away Mentiroso's second rope break. Mentiroso is prone on the mat, and Dutch thinks he can put this one away. He goes to the top rope... Flying elbow! Mentiroso rolls out of the way, but can he capitalize? He goes for a moonsault! Nails it perfectly! Cover gets one... two... Dutch kicks out! Mentiroso looks frustrated and hurt. It looks like his back injury is starting to wear him out. He picks up Dutch, and hits a tornado DDT! But it doesn't have the full impact, and Mentiroso can only get a two count when he goes for the cover. El Gato is cheering his hero on, and the fans are behind him too! Mentiroso looks like he's going for his Running Enzuigiri, but Dutch lowers his head just in time, and El Mentiroso crashes to the mat. Dutch swoops in to take advantage. He hoists Mentiroso into the Electric Chair position! HeÕs going to drop him right on his injured neck! But NO --- The Jugador! Dutch's head smacks to the mat with a sick thud! Mentiroso hooks the leg! One... Two... Three! Despite all odds, Mentiroso picks up a first round win! Post-match handshake follows, but Dutch has to bear the laughter and mocking from his tag partner Rod Hardway on the walk up the aisle. El Mentiroso takes on Dextro in the semi-finals.
The first Pure Honor Triple-Threat. It's under Tornado rules, which will prove a challenge for Referee Henry Andrews. All three men shake hands, and here we go. Adam Mayhem gets in Mark Cage's face, apparently these two have a history. Cage loses his temper and --- almost throws a closed fist. He catches himself before he connects, but Mayhem comes right for him with a knee lift. Mayhem gets the neckbreaker for a cover, only two. He gets up, Dez Carter makes eye contract and goes to tie-up --- Mayhem slides outside. Asuka starts screaming at Mayhem, all kinds of things. Dez rolls his eyes, Mark Cage rolls up Dez Carter! Henry Andrews interrupts his count on Mayhem to count the pinfall one, two. Carter & Cage tie-up, Dez looking for a Dragon Suplex, Cage fighting that, here comes Adam Mayhem from behind with a clothesline to the back of Carter's head. Cage ends up off-balance, and Mayhem nails HIM with a scissors kick! Cover gets two. Mayhem with some open-hand chops, backing Cage into the corner. He gets some space and runs in with the clothesline --- Cage gets him with a back elbow, to the second turnbuckle, and there's a Swinging DDT. Mayhem is down, Mark Cage to the top rope ... Cage Drop! It connects on Mayhem, there's a cover one, two, Dez Carter breaks that up with a hold... it's a Stretch Plumb! Mark Cage is in a world of pain now, he could very well submit, but Adam Mayhem gets up in time to drape Cage's foot across the bottom rope. That costs Cage a rope break, but means the match continues. Mayhem rushes Carter, who ducks, which sends Mayhem to the outside. Cage with a German Suplex attempt, this time it's Carter blocking a suplex with a sick --- and hard-to-believe --- kick upside Cage's head. Cage drops down, cover --- Mayhem from the outside puts Cage's foot on the bottom rope, ensuring the match doesn't end. It probably helps that it costs Cage another rope break, too. Mayhem slides back into the ring, booting Dez Carter in the gut for an Evenflow DDT. He covers, that only gets two. Mayhem turns his attention to Mark Cage... Fired Up! Mark Cage is out, Mayhem with the cover... Wait a minute! Dez Carter with a running enziguri to the back of Mayhem's head, breaking up the pin. Another big martial arts kick to Mayhem keeps him staggered, and then it's an OVERDRIVE! Cover, one, two, Cage tries to save, three! Dez Carter with two straight pinfalls on Adam Mayhem, and he advances in the tournament. Carter shakes the hand of Mark Cage, who has the TV Title to console him. Dez reaches out to Adam Mayhem --- wait a minute! Mayhem slaps Carter's hand away. That's not honorable at all... Mayhem looks like he could explode, switching his furious gaze between Dez Carter and Mark Cage. What connection does Mayhem have to Cage?
Kyle Roberts immediately goes to work on Gunderson. Big scoop slam, and then Kyle takes a minute to remind the crowd that he's smarter then them. Roberts gets Gunderson, irish whip, Gunderson ducks the lariat --- superkick! Roberts drops, one, two, kick out. Gunderson goes to the top rope, flying clothesline --- Roberts hits the ropes, crotching Gunderson on the top. The referee warns Kyle, but Kyle pleads innocence, he didn't *know* Gunderson would land on his crotch. Really. Roberts picks Gunderson up off the canvas and hits the bulldog. Asai Moonsault! by Roberts, but the cover only gets two. Roberts cinches in a headlock, because that's "PURE HONOR BABY!" Gunderson responds by switching things around and getting a rolling clutch pin for two. Roberts looks mildly shocked, but even better, Gunderson follows it up with a jaw jacker! Roberts on one knee, trying to get up. Gunderson launches off of that knee with a Shining Wizard for one, two, Roberts gets a foot on the ropes. It looked like he could've kicked out there, but Roberts is known to go for the ropes whenever possible. Roberts is pissed off and throws an eye gouge Gunderson's way, netting him the loss of ANOTHER rope break. Roberts guhs and gahs at the call, pretty darn angry. His first act of business? Spinebuster on Gunderson... into the Bear-Tamer! Roberts has it locked on, and he's wrenching back. The pain is evident on Gunderon's face, but he's crawling to the ropes... Roberts looks left, looks right, seemingly surprised that GUnderson isn't tapping out immediately. North reaches, and grabs the ropes. That's one rope break, but it's well worth it --- if Roberts would let go! Roberts doesn't break the hold, going to the referee's count of four before he yanks Gunderson back to the center of the ring. The ref's had enough of that, he charges Roberts his final rope break for not breaking the hold! And he lets Kyle know that he'll DQ him if he doesn't break that hold! Roberts, threatened with the DQ, finally lets go. He's all up in the ref's face. Realizing that won't win him the match, Kyle goes back to North. Emerald Fusion time, kids. He hoists him up... Gunderson slips out. Kyle spins around, off-balance --- and eats a Blackout! North can't capitalize, still worn out... he gets an arm over Roberts for one, two, Kyle kicks out. North pulls Kyle up to his feet, could it be the Million Dollar Dream? Roberts not about to let it happen, spins North around, picks him up for the Moose Jaw Driver, North slips out, toe kick, POSITIVE DEFEAT! Sliced Bread #2 puts Roberts down, Gunderson sprints over him, leaps to the turnbuckle, moonsault for ONE, TWO, Roberts has his foot on the ropes...with no more rope breaks! THREE! North Gunderson has defeated Kyle Roberts! North drops to his knees, roaring in his first Pure Honor victory. And Roberts from behind! And wait a minute, no! EMERALD FUSION! Kyle Roberts just hit a sick looking Emerald Fusion on North Gunderson. That show of poor sportsmanship will net Kyle an ejection from the Pure division, but the real story is that North Gunderson may be injured from that vicious post-match Emerald Fusion...
Dextro is prepping for his semi-final contest with El Mentiroso. Tommy Deathrow & Krusty Kid Paul come into the locker room, wishing Dextro luck. The SAD make fun of Mentiroso, but Dextro says "Hey guys, I can do this Pure Honor style." SAD give Dextro big, non-homo man-hugs and Dex heads out to his match!
Mentiroso favoring his back slightly, that injury sustained at the hands of Static & the Sexy Adorable Drunks at TNF. Perhaps some vengeance for Mentiroso, taking on SAD's friend Dextro. Quick pace to start, lucha-libre and cruiserweight style counters and reversals, audience applauding the exchanges. Mentiroso is the first man to score an impact move, connecting with a high dropkick. Two count off that, both men having wrestled one match already tonight. Another dropkick, but Dextro has the same idea and neither man gets much on the impact. El Mentiroso is looking to get this match over with as quickly as possible to save energy for the main event, hitting his leg-applied rolling Full Nelson! The Meth Orphan uses a rope break to get free. Mentiroso back to work, sending Dextro flying a headscissors. Mentiriso steps to the ring apron, slingshot pescado, Dextro gets the knees up. Dextro to the top rope, 450 splash! Cover gets TWO. Dextro with a DexPlex to put Mentiroso down, and then he grabs a head-vice with body scissors, trying to slow the pace and wear Mentiroso out. Dextro applying pressure, Mentiroso shifts close enough to get his foot on the bottom rope. Clean break, but The Meth Orphan has a new idea... He grabs Mentiroso and hits the Randy Orton backbreaker over his knee. And Mentiroso's back is already injured! Dextro covers, Mentiroso won't stay down. Irish whip, Dextro catches his man with another DexPlex. Crowd rallying behind Mentiroso, who won't stay down. Dextro grabs headscissors. Mentiroso could get the ropes, but he's not? Mentiroso does a HEADSTAND in the scissors! He flips forward, getting free, off the ropes, Dex is up, Mentiroso nails the ENNNNNZIGURRRRRI! Dextro flops forward, and El Mentiroso covers for TWO. Mentiroso yells in Spanish, it's time! Scoop and a slam to Dextro, setting him in perfect position for Mentiroso to go up top... and fly off with El Mentira Grande. Unfortunately for Mentiroso, nobody home. The impact jams Mentiroso's spine something terrible, and Dextro immediately hooks him for the Meth Bust. Cover is made, this should be all --- wait just a minute! EL GATO just slid into the ring and blasted Dextro from behind! The cover was academic, but El Gato... trying to save his mentor, but that wasn't the way to do it. Senora Seurte is wide-eyed and aghast on the outside as the referee announces that the winner, by DISQUALIFICATION, is Dextro! And a DQ in a Pure Honor match means... El Mentiroso may be kicked out of the division! Thanks to El Gato. Dextro has rolled to the outside. El Gato is apologizing profusely, what can El Mentiroso possibly be thinking? Senora screams at Gato as she helps Mentiroso up and out of the ring. Regrettable circumstances aside, the dark horse in this tournament has advanced - Dextro meets the winner of Carter/Gunderson.
North T. Gunderson is on the trainer's table, obviously in pain. Head Trainer Mickey O'Flattery is advising him to withdraw from the tournament. North stands up. "UP WITH PEOPLE!" Holding his neck, clearly in bad shape, North Gunderson is on his way to the ring!
Handshake to start, Dez Carter with a look of uncertainty on his face as he looks at North. Gunderson's neck is tilted to the right, obviously he's been quite damaged from that Emerald Fusion earlier. The two circle, Carter in a martial arts stance. Carter throws a chop Gunderson's way, Gunderson catches the arm and tries to flip Dez over, Dez reverses and throws a vicious palm strike towards North's face. Connects! And North staggers back, the jolt on his neck. Carter hooks his man with with a quick snap suplex, cover gets two. North is slow to get to his feet... Carter shoots some kicks into North's ribs. North backed into the rpoes, referee makes Carter back off. Not a rope break, simply that the man was forced into the ropes. North comes out, this time CATCHING one of Carter's kicks! He's got some fight left in him, sweep take down, what the heck... it's a Figure Four Leg Lock! North Gunderson has applied a figure four on Dez Carter in the center of the ring, and this could be all. Carter lays back, Sharplin makes a count of two before Carter sits back up. The pain is intense, crowd actually getting seriously into North. North holding his neck, but he's going to work this figure four for all it's worth. Carter begins slowly inching backwards to the ropes, but North scrabbles on the canvas and tugs the other way, pulling the hold back to the center. Carter again lays back, two count. He's go to watch that. Sharplin asks Carter if he wants to quit, he's thinking about it... no, he's trying to roll the hold over. Gunderson trying to prevent it, but Dez Carter, with Asuka cheering him on... turns it over! Now the pain is on Gunderson, who quickly releases the hold. Crowd applauds that sequence, but there not taking any time. The two men fighting over a hold, but Carter inverts a backslide attempt into the double-underhook... into the Tiger Driver. North shoots up briefly, holding his neck in pain. Carter makes a cover, but North uses a rope break to get free. Now Carter stands up, but North Gunderson is clearly in a bad way. The brutal post-match Fusion from Stylin' Kyle definitely put strain on North's neck. Dez with an expression of concern on his face. He stands back as Gunderson tries to stand, the referee asking North if he wants to continue. North swats the referee away, shooting a hand to his neck. He falls forward to a knee, but valiantly struggles to get back up. For better or for worse, North won't quit this match! Gunderson snaps a superkick towards Carter --- Carter ducks the move and grabs the leg from behind, taking Gunderson down. A twist and a pretzel later, North is locked into the STRETCH PLUM. Dez has it locked in, and Gunderson's neck is far too hurt... he submits! North is down on the canvas, holding his neck. Dez offers his hand, and North stands up. Handshake between the two men, Dez looking remorseful that his opponent came into the match so injured. North drops down, and trainers meet him to help him to the back.
Both men shake hands to begin. Dextro, the dark horse of the tournament against the man with a win over Devastation, Dez Carter. And both men have been through two grueling matches so far tonight. Tie-up to start, feeling out process. Carter gets a hammerlock, Dextro throws a back elbow and switches to one of his own. He tries to lift Carter up, Carter uses his weight to prevent whatever Dextro was trying --- looked like a hammerlock back suplex --- and snapmares Dextro down. Dextro going for a quick submission, looking to lock on a Dragon Sleeper! Dextro has to grab the ropes, and just like that, he's down a rope break. Advantage goes to Dez Carter, much to the delight of Asuka on the outside. Referee Dick Kiebiech calling this main event match-up... Dez takes control again, twisting the arm of Dextro. Carter's strategy: Keep the high-flier grounded, using his strong style background. Dextro turns, latching onto an armlock of his own, Carter lets fly a big kick into Dextro's ribs. That leaves the Meth Orphan gasping. Carter gets a rebound off the ropes... LARIATOOOOO! New Japan style, lateral press gets two. Dextro taking longer to get up from that than he would have earlier, but that's what it takes tonight: For a shot at Patrick Bickle and the prestigious Kiniski Cup, one man will need to reach deep down inside himself on this night to win three matches. Intestinal fortitude like crazy. The crowd is right into the contest as Dez Carter pretzels Dextro's legs, leans back... and it's a Muta Lock, the inverted STF! Dextro flails his hands in pain, he's far from the ropes and the move makes it difficult to move. But there's only so long Dez Carter can maintain his awkward positioning. Carter releases, but that was more damage done to the back and shoulders of Dextro, making him vulnerable to the Stretch Plum. Carter chaining submissions together like a fiend, now hitting a full nelson on the ground and sitting back in a form of Camel Clutch. Dextro's face is a mask of pain... Dez Carter stands up in the hold, the full nelson still locked on Dextro! He pulls him up, and then nails a sick Dragon Suplex from the position --- bridging for TWO and a half. Crowd thought that could've been it. Crowd is chanting now, a surprising chant of "Let's go Dextro!" competing with "Let's go Carter!" Carter with a palm strike to the forehead of Dextro, followed up by an assortment of stiff shots which send Dextro reeling into the corner. Dextro follows in with a high running knee --- Dextro moves out of the way and Dez Carter hits and tumbles over the top, cracking his shoulder on the canvas on the way down. Kiebiech begins the ten count, which is taken a lot more seriously in Pure Honor matches. But what's this? Dextro slides out of the ring and --- ignoring a shrieking Asuka --- rolls Dez back in the ring. Looks like Dextro wants to win this in the ring, he doesn't want a count-out victory. Can he take advantage of the mistake? Backhand chop by Carter to stave Dextro off, and Carter takes control again. Tiger Driver comin' up, but no! Dextro squeezes his legs around Carter's neck as he's flipped! And then Dextro grabs an arm and pulls it through his legs, a Jujigatama in vertical position. Call it Six Seconds Magic, call it trying to win in any way, but Dextro has Carter in a position to tap... Carter makes the ropes, using a rope break. Both men are back up, Dez Carter is off the ropes with another LARIATOOOO --- Dextro goes down, pops back up, DEXPLEX sends Dextro skidding across the ring! And THEN Dextro falls down from the lariat... leaving both men on the canvas. Dextro is up just seconds before Dez Carter, both men absolutely exhausted. Carter comes in with a palm strike, this one is caught by Dextro, who yanks Carter forward and hits a T-Bone DexPlex to the canvas. He makes a cover, gets two. Dextro trying to build momentum, hits the Fisherman's Suplex (perfectly.) Cover gets two and a half. And that's it, Dextro is going to the top rope. He climbs, Dez is prone on the canvas. 450 Splash connects! That's all, one, two, NO. Foot on the ropes, Carter using his second rope break to stay alive in the contest! Dextro moans, he was waiting for that to succeed. New plan: Bust 'em. Dextro hooks Dez's arms from behind, twists him around for the Meth Bust... Dez gets his arms free! He grabs Dextro from behind and hoists him on his shoulders for the Overdrive. Dextro has it scouted, though, he slides off of Carter and lands in front of him, quickly scooping Carter up for a running SHOULDERBREAKER. Just nasty, but wait! Dextro is down on one knee, still with Carter's shoulder on his knee. He switches Carter around to the otherside and grabs the man's legs above his head... pulling down! Wild move by Dextro, Carter's shoulders and neck on his knee, and using his arms to yank the man's legs down across HIS shoulders! Like something Bryan Danielson might be using, for goodness sake. Crowd going crazy, and what can Carter do? Dextro yanking, shaking, making him hurt, Dez Carter can't make the ropes, he can't get free... and he submits! Dextro releases Carter right away, and falls forward. Both men are breathing heavily on the canvas, worn out, tired, they've been through a grueling couple hours. The crowd is applauding loudly as the men get to their feet. There's the handshake. Carter exits the ring to let Dextro experience an unusual sensation for him... the cheers of the crowd. July 18th, it will be Dextro vs Patrick Bickle: Pure Honor Championship on the line.
